Hello World

Welcome to the launch of my premiere blog, Baby Boomers United!!

My name is Tanja and I am a baby boomer.  I'm 46 years old, I live in Ohio and I studied gerontology at Bowling Green State University.  The first part of my career I worked in healthcare, both long term care and acute care, for over 15 years.  My most recent employment has been as Benefits Administrator, administrating employee medical, dental, disability, retirement plans, etc. I've been at this for over 13 years now.  I am so excited to share information that I am hopeful you will find useful, sometimes humorous and always pertinent.  I invite you to comment and share your opinions and experiences as well.

Let's get started, what is a Baby Boomer?  Demographers, sociologists and the media define baby boomers as those born from 1946 - 1964. In 2011, that would make us between 46 and 64 years old.

What makes us unique?  Just to mention a few things, we were the fastest growing segment of the population for many years. As a result we have made many changes to life as we once knew it; due to our sheer numbers we are depleting a very old Social Security System therefore we must find other vehicles for retirement savings and we are responsible for the growth of certain industries such as retirement communities and medications that deal specifically with illnesses common to older people. Take a look at the media and see for yourself how much time and money is spent advertising to us. We are living much longer than previous generations and our families are often times dispersed over the country or even the world.  We no longer have our children living in a community near us where they can help us as we get older.  All these things and more are why we have specific and unique needs.

If you are a Baby Boomer I urge you to follow my blog.  You're guaranteed to find helpful informatinon as it progresses over the coming days and months. Again, I welcome any comments.  I hope you enjoy my blog.

Y'all come back now, you hear.
